Three characteristics to excel in college

College requires a lot of discipline, time, and commitment; if you do not have the above characteristics, you will hardly be an outstanding student.

How can you be so disciplined, passionate, and good? That was the question that I used to get from my classmates constantly. My Answer: I do everything that most of you don’t.

Yes, following the masses has never been my way of behaving; And of course, I put that into practice in college, which allowed me to finish my degree even though 98% of the people I started studying with are still struggling to finish their university period.

“Thinking collectively is the general rule. Thinking individually is the exception ”.
-Gustave Le Bon-

Today I want to share with you what helped me to be the best student during 5 years of university:

Take the distance from the masses.

We all know that parties, liquor, drugs, and sex are common during college, which is a great challenge for those who decide to study. I received many invitations to go to parties at my university, but I decided to do it a few times. Why? It was only necessary to analyze the university's performance and those who attended those parties' private lives. Most of them were disinterested in their professional careers, they were always late, and on most occasions, they never contributed anything to the topics discussed during class.

I replaced parties, liquor, and sex by spending more time at home, accompanied by a cozy book and television that allowed me to learn through cultural content. I also loved consuming entertaining content that is important for those moments of leisure. Everything I did was looking for a disconnection with the masses to connect with me.

Be critical

Whenever we discussed a topic in class, the teacher used to ask me first, which became a tradition that helped me gain the trust and support of many teachers, and a large part of my classmates always looked for it—a way to do group work with me. However, not everything is rosy for those of us who have the ability to analyze, evaluate and judge all the existing information regarding a certain topic, situation, work of art, a person, among many other options, since those characteristics in a person are uncomfortable for a large part of the population, especially for those who have built thinking based on the masses and not on individualism, which on many occasions makes them dogmatic and incapable of accepting the unknown and therefore their visions of life before the world is governed by the traditional, so make them stay in their comfort zone.

Help those who want your help

Before believing ourselves, the most intelligent, cultured, and superior, it is essential to understand that the way we treat others speaks volumes about who we are. And yes, on many occasions, I felt superior to my classmates, which was never an excuse to help those who sought my help. He was always open to helping them with everything they needed, so much so that many times I saw myself in the toxic responsibility of doing what they had to do but never finished. Over time I learned to help in a better way, remembering the great teacher Jesus Christ, who said: Help yourself, I will help you. So it was. I am fortunate to say that I helped several of my colleagues transform their academic lives and much of their private lives, and that was possible when I understood that the best way to help is when the other person wants to be helped.

Conclusion

All of the above gave me the privilege of finishing my career with honors and with the satisfaction of knowing that I gave my best. In the process, I made many friends and decided to let others go as well. I was helped, and I also helped. I learned a lot, but I unlearned more, and above all, I affirmed several beliefs that have helped me do my best, for example: Do not follow the masses, criticize yourself and help others if they really want to be helped.
